Biography

Natural of Alcanena, Rui holds a degree in Forest Engineering, postgraduate degree in Nature Conservation and Hotel Management. Has a very diversified professional career starting in 1989, passing through has a secondary school teacher, head of the Cabinet of Alcanena City Council and responsible for the area of new business in the landscaping company Visabeira SA, merging functions with the board direction of his 1st rural tourism project “Casa dos Matos – nature tourism “, located in the village of Alvados, Natural Park of the Sierras de Aire and Candeeiros. After another 4 years as responsible for leather shoes export project to Asian countries, Rui created his 2nd rural tourism project in the village of Alvados, inaugurated in 2012 and elected in 2013 “Hotel Revelation of the Year by Guia Boa Cama Boa Mesa” the “Cooking and Nature Emotional Hotel”, which also includes the prestigious Condé Nast Travel Hot List as one of the new best hotels in the world, being the only Portuguese hotel and one of the few in the world to integrate the 3 sub- lists “Amazing Pools at the Best New Hotels”, “Hot new hotels for under $ 300″ and “The best new hotels with great food”. In 2015 the Hotel is elected by the newspaper “The Times” as one of the 20 best mountain refuges in Europe. While in 2016, the Hotel is part of the Forbes list of the 25 most cool hotels in the world and is selected by Trivago for the top 8 hotels in the world that are ideal for connecting with the nature.
